blendED 2017 was held October 25-27 in Edmonton and was focused on applying flexible learning strategies in various learning spaces. It was the 3rd blendED Symposium and attracted participants from throughout Canada.
The pre-symposium explored blendED learning strategies that support First Nations, Métis and Inuit Learners and how they can apply to all learners. Sean Lessard provided an engaging keynote and Explored the Possibilities of Curriculum Making Both In and Outside of School Places.
Over the final two days of the Symposium, attendees participated in over 40 sessions and engaged in dialogue with their peers as well as leaders in online and blendED learning.

Dr. Sean Lessard is from Montreal Lake Cree Nation in Treaty 6 territory. He is an award winning writer, international speaker and researcher in the field of indigenous education. Sean is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Regina and faculty member of the University of Alberta. Sean has recently been awarded the Pat Clifford emerging researcher award by the Canadian Association for Teacher Educators as well as the Myer Horowitz Foundation outstanding dissertation award at the University of Alberta. His work focuses on indigenous youth empowerment and leadership including the co-development of a not for profit indigenous youth bursary and wellness program that has contributed over $150,000 in the past 3 years to indigenous high school and post-secondary students. www.growingyoungmovers.com
Catlin Tucker is a Google Certified Innovator, bestselling author, international trainer, and frequent Edtech speaker, who currently teaches in Sonoma County where she was named Teacher of the Year in 2010. Catlin’s first book Blended Learning in Grades 4-12 is a bestseller and her second book Creatively Teach the Common Core Literacy Standards with Technology was published in June 2015. Norman Vaughan, Ph.D. is a Professor in the Department of Education at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He has co-authored the books Teaching in Blended Learning Environments: Creating and Sustaining Communities of Inquiry (2013) and Blended Learning in Higher Education (2008) and he has published a series of articles on blended learning and faculty development. Dr. Vaughan is the Co-founder of the Blended Online Design Network (BOLD), a member of the Community of Inquiry Research Group, the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Mobile and Blended Learning and he is on the Editorial Boards of numerous national and international journals.
